Goodbye My Friend

Jon B. Holmes

For someone going through cancer treatment, it is good to have support from others who truly know what you’re going through and how you feel first hand. For Mary Jo and me that person was our good friend and neighbor, Jon Brian Holms. Jon has been so inspirational and supportive. I don’t know what I would have done had we not had Jon’s support showing us how a good person handles themselves around others when dealing with cancer. Throughout Mary Jo’s cancer treatments, Jon would always stop by to see how Mary Jo was feeling though if you asked Jon how he was feeling that day, he would divert and talk about how beautiful a day it is or something very positive. Jon was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer over four years ago and painfully endured over 80+ rounds chemo therapy, numerous surgical procedures both here in the Twin Cities and in New York. Jon was always in pain but you never heard him complain. You would only know how painful it must have been for him if you asked Jon about the pain meds he was prescribed every hour. One day I asked Jon how he does it and he said “it makes him feel good and inspires him to be around people who he knows are going to make it” (beat cancer).

Jon and Campbell

Jon’s long and painful battle with cancer ended yesterday, May 19th at 10:31am surrounded a few good friends and family. God bless you Jon. You will be so missed in this world.

In honor of Jon, a group of friends and family will be walking again this year at the “Get Your Rear in Gear” 5K walk this Sunday. The event is held in Edina. Rain or shine, the 5k walk starts at 9:05am at Southdale and loops west through the neighborhoods and then back to Southdale. Please come out and join us!

A Happy Anniversary

Today is a great day.  Mary Jo and I were married 23 years ago today and it feels like yesterday.  We never had a decent video of our wedding as couples do today so today I made a video slide show of that special day for Mary Jo.  A lot of things change in 23 years, but I still love her more than ever.  Happy Anniversary Mary Jo.

Happy Mothers Day

Mary Jo and I want to wish our moms and all the mothers a Happy Mothers Day today.  We celebrated the day by participating in the Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" at MOA.  It was an amazing event with over 55,000 warriors in pink raising over $3,000,000 today to find a cure for breast cancer.  The Twin Cities event is one of the biggest 5k race/walk events nationally, and since it's inception, our local event has raised over $30,000,000 most of which stays right here in the Twin Cities.

Mary Jo is feeling well and is very excited to be going back to work soon.  On Tuesday morning, Mary Jo begins an intensive 9 day Delta Airlines classroom re-qualifaction training.  Mary Jo will be off for the month of June and not returning to flight status until July only because of a schedule bidding timing issue.
